Literacy Lessons

Within our Literacy lessons this term the children have been encouraged to identify and describe and compare the different characters in a range of texts from traditional stories, such as Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, to modern classics like The Gruffalo. We have looked at ways of changing stories by inventing and introducing new characters of our own.

In March the children in Year 1 had the opportunity to visit the theatre in Halifax to see The Gruffalo. The children had an extremely enjoyable time. Not only do visits like this provide children with sometimes new and exciting experiences but they also link to areas studied during our Literacy lessons. This helps bring the subject matter to life thus stimulating their imaginations and helping to improve their speaking and writing skills.
