Sandal Magna Community Academy

Spectacular School Trip

Tuesday 19 Dec 2017 18:18pm

Last week we went on a fantastic school trip to South Kirby Recycling Centre and Fire Station. We had great fun learning about how the workers at Shanks and Firefighters help our community.

At Shanks, we learnt about the household waste that you can recycle and the types of rubbish that you can't. One of our favourite parts of the morning was our first activity. It was interesting to learn how the workers at Shanks recycle because we got to give it a try. Jade showed us how to use a conveyor belt to sort rubbish into the correct recycling bins. We split into four teams to see how quickly we could sort the recycling. We even got to use magnets! We also had lots of fun making beautiful bracelets from recycled materials.

At the Fire Station, we found out about the many different things Firefighters do and how we can stay safe in our homes. We enjoyed looking at the Fire Engine and finding out about the Firefighter's uniform. Our favourite parts of the visit were watching Tava and Zain race to dress as Firefighters and getting the chance to use the Firefighter's hose on their training tower.

Take a look at our pictures of our fun day!
