Anglo Saxon Workshop

Friday 13 Jan 2017 21:16pm

Year 3 have really enjoyed learning about the Anglo Saxons so far this half term. On Wednesday, we took part in our Anglo Saxon workshop. We were met with our host, Louise, from Wakefield Museum. She was dressed as an Anglo Saxon lady! We divided ourselves into 8 families, all who would have had different jobs in a village. The families had to choose an artefact that would have helped them to do their job. The families included fishers, butchers, millers, bakers and blacksmiths. We used maps of a village to decide where would be the best place for their houses.

After a short break, each family was given a problem to solve. They had to make deals and bargain with other families to help them solve their problems. Sherdil and Tyesha were lucky enough to be chosen to dress up in Anglo Saxon clothes! Louise explained what would happen to children if they were naughty.... they would be put in the stocks for a few hours! We agreed this sounded very painful! The workshop ended by us making some Anglo Saxon riddles. The children all had a great time and learnt a lot to help us with our topic work this half term.
