The day we became Roman soldiers!

Friday 07 Apr 2017 18:25pm

Today, Year 3 and 4 travelled to Murton Park near York to experience what it was like to be a Roman soldier. As we arrived, we were met by the Centurion who would be our leader for the day. He was very strict and he let us know what he expected of us as his Roman soldiers. After splitting into groups, we all put on our Roman uniforms which included a helmet, a sword and a shield. We stood in line and chanted like real soldiers. During the course of the day each group took part in 4 different activities. These were throwing a spear at our enemy, attacking our enemy with a sword, making oil burners and writing in Roman letters and numerals. The day ended as we had to defend our fort from the Celtic enemy. Everybody had a fantastic day and each child was a credit to our school. Well done everyone and have a great holiday. See you in two weeks for lots of work about the Romans!
