Trip to the National Coal Mining Museum
Monday 12 Jun 2017 19:26pm
Today, Year 3 took a trip to the National Coal Mining Museum. Our topic this half term is Marvellous Miners and we went to learn about what life would have been like working down the pit. When we arrived, the children split into 2 groups and began our activities for the day. These included visiting the pit ponies, Eric, Ernie and Finn (who was huge!), visiting the museum and taking a trip down the mine. This was certainly the highlight of the day. Firstly, we all got into the cage and travelled 150 feet underground. We took part in mining activities, and found out how tough it really was to be a miner. Our guide Steve made the experience fun and educational. He used to be a miner many years ago. We will use all we learnt today and use it in our topic lessons over the next few weeks.
