Wakefield One Visit

Tuesday 17 Mar 2015 00:00am

Today we visited the Wakefield One Museum to take part in a Charles Waterton workshop. The children all arrived in school at 8.30 so we could head for the train to take us into Wakefield. We arrived early for the workshop so we all sat outside in the sunshine and look at the views.

Inside we met a lady called Louise, who came to school last term for out Roman workshop! It was nice to see her again. First, we talked about who Charles Waterton was and what he was famous for. In pairs, we looked at a painting of him catching a Cayman. We then wrote questions with different openers that we would like to ask him. The children thought of some very interesting questions! Then we looked at his original diary which was 150 years old!

In small groups we looked around the museum. The Charles Waterton exhibition was full of his work with different animals. There were tropical birds, monkeys, armadillos and a life size cayman under a glass floor! After that we did some drama work as reporters. It was then time to get the train home. We all had a wonderful time!
