Weekly roundup

Friday 03 Oct 2014 20:51pm

This week we began learning how to write an information text about the Romans. None of the children had written one before so it was a new experience for everyone. We learnt about the features of a good information text and made word walls to help us understand new words. All the children are looking forward to writing their own next week. Some will be chosen for the Wakefield Museum website!

In Numeracy we have been learning about symmetry and shape. We created some fantastic symmertical butterflies and pattens using mirrors and coloured pencils. Later on in the week we looked at 2D and 3D shapes and their features. Some children even found the features of a dodecahedron!

In Art this week, the children designed their own Roman mosaic using templates of the sun, birds and Roman soldiers. Today, we looked at all of the things that the Romans gave us, including coins, aqueducts, roads and libraries.

Congratulations to Jaydon and Larosa, who recieved a special mentions award this week. Jaydon for his fantastic work in Numeracy with shape and symmetry. Larosa for wonderful work in all lessons and sharing her ideas with others. Well done!
