Going back in time

Monday 12 Jun 2017 23:00pm

We had a lovely time when we went to The National Coal Mining Museum on Monday.  The topic work we had already done stood us in good stead and we already knew a little about children working down the mines in previous centuries.  Some of us (including the staff) were a little apprehensive when it came to actually taking the plunge and going down the mine but we all enjoyed it, followed the rules and came out smiling, though with somewhat blackened faces.  None of us could imagine working a 12 hour shift in virtual darkness and no one wanted to ‘keep the trap shut’ or ‘put the wood in the hole.’  Unfortunately, we were not able to take photos in the mine for health and safety reasons.
When we saw the pit ponies, we were able to consolidate our learning about teeth in science.
All in all, a good day was had by all.  We hope you enjoy the photos.
