Hail Caesar!
Saturday 15 Apr 2017 19:16pm
On the very last day, we travelled back in time to Roman York aka Brigantium with Year 3 as the launch for our Rotten Romans topic next term.
It was a long journey but we were all excited when we arrived and were met by our leader. We had to begin work straight away and some of us pulled the cart across the site to the Roman Fort where we changed into Roman uniform including finding a helmet and learned how to use a shield and a spear. We practised marching (sin, dex) and then stabbing in readiness for any attack by the dreaded Celts.
After lunch we made oil lamps, signed up for a 25 year long service in the Roman Army, learned to write in Roman script and a little about the geography of the Roman Empire, before practising our testudo. We probably need a little more practice according to our commander, but we still successfully chased away the barbaric Celt!
Take a look at the pictures to see just how much fun we had.
Thank you to all of you for your hard work this term. I hope you have a lovely break and plenty of fun.
