Preserving the peace

The children in Year 4 were a real credit to themselves, their families and our school today when we caught a train into Wakefield and attended a workshop at Wakefield One.  They impressed the leader, Louise, with their knowledge of Charles Waterton and his work and with their excellent manners.
The children pretended to shoot an animal with a poisoned dart and discovered how Waterton travelled to South America to study and capture a cayman crocodile.  They then practised writing with a quill as he would have done before entering the museum proper and seeing examples of Waterton's taxidermy work from more than 150 years ago.
They were truly fascinated that such a hero in his field came from a village only a few miles away from school.  Just look at their faces!
