Sam the dog visits!

Wednesday 25 May 2016 13:51pm

It's been a while since Sam the Dog visited our class. We have been 2nd a few times, and been very close. But finally we got the best attendance again with only 1 person away on one day. So close to 100%!

It's been a very different week. On Monday, Mr Smith was on a course, so Miss Abernethy taught us. In English, we wrote river poems to link to our topic work. We used words such as tranquil, meander, flow and raging. These are all words that are to do with rivers. Some people made theirs rhyme and some didn't. In Maths, we used different maths technique to solve a murder mystery. We worked in small groups or pairs to solve it. Only one person managed to solve the mystery!  In the afternoon, we worked on our pointillism art work. This is when you use dots instead of strokes in painting.

On Tuesday we went on our class trip to Standedge Tunnel in Marsden. This was a very exciting trip as we got to go in a canal boat into the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in Britain. At one point, they turned out the lights and it was pitch black. You couldn't see your hand in front of your face. Also, we had a water safety talk where we learnt about all the important things to stay safe near canals and rivers. The canal paths are used for dog walkers, runners, cyclists and people who are out for a walk. It's very important to stay safe near water.

On Wednesday, we were back in class as normal, with Maths and English sets. Mr Smith's Maths set got to do some of the interesting activities that he learnt on the course, which included mathematical orienteering. In the afternoon, we had PE but Mr Pearson was unable to come to the school. So Mr Smith took us for PE and we did lots of different activities to get our heart rate running and some skill activities when we cooled down.

It's been a very exciting week, even though it's been short. We hope you all have a wonderful half term holiday and see you back at school on the Monday 6th June!
