Space day
Thursday 13 Oct 2016 23:00pm
In year 5 today we have been training to be astronauts. First, we went on to the playground to test our physical fitness. Mr Smith set up some astronaut training drills such as, agility training with cones and hoops and core strength such as sit ups and planks. A few children managed to do a plank for 1 minute and 40 seconds. After that we came back to the classroom to learn more about the food astronauts eat. We found out that they eat food that has had all the water removed from it. Mr Smith showed us the packets and then opened them so we could see what they looked like. We had strawberries, bananas, grapes and ice cream. We looked at each piece of food, then smelt it. Finally, Mr Smith let us eat the food. The fruit flavours tasted very strong and some children did not like them. Then we tried the ice cream. One child said, "It's better than real ice cream!" but Mr Smith disagreed. He thought that real ice cream is better.
In the afternoon, our parents came in to help us make rockets from different materials. They are now displayed outside our classroom. We have had a fantastic day! Pictures to follow.
