Tropical butterfly house

Yesterday, Year 5 and 6 went to Tropical Butterfly House in Sheffield to learn about the animals and plants you would find in the rainforest. We set off at 9:15 and arrived to go to our first workshop. We entered the butterfly house, which was full of beautiful plants, birds and butterflies. Our guide for the day, Lucy, told us all about the different senses the animals used to help them in the rainforest. We got to see a giant cockroach, a python and a tenrec (it looks like a hedgehog, but its actually closely related to an elephant!)
After this, we went for our lunch, then visited the shop. It was now time for our second workshop. This time we were learning all about fur, feathers and scales. Different types of animals have different skin covering. We saw some shedded snake skin, some feathers and felt a furry guinea pig. Then we got to hold a guinea pig, a tortoise and stroke an owl. Mr Smith didn't want to give the guinea pig back!
After this, we went on a short walk around the site. There were many different animals, such as meerkats, porcupines, tortoises, mice and caiman. It was a wonderful day and we learnt so much!
