Equivalent Fraction Task

Thursday 13 Nov 2014 21:50pm

Another fun and challenging maths lesson! We had to sort a set of cards into rows of equivalent fractions. Mrs Thompson didn't tell us how to do it. We already knew simple equivalents like 1/2 5/10 and 2/3 and 6/9. We had to work collaboratively to work out the solution.
We found it quite tricky but we worked well together and also showed 'stickability' by not giving in when it was difficult. The Pentagons were the first to complete it and were then set the tricky task of explaining their methods. They learnt some new vocabulary. They now know what fractions in their 'simplest form' means and how they could use the simplest form to find the equivalent fractions by multiplying the numerator and the denominator by the same amount.
