Thanksgiving day!

Tuesday 03 Nov 2015 10:42am

On Friday 23rd October, Year 6 celebrated the end of our 'Stars and Stripes' topic with a Thanksgiving themed day. As part of the event, we first discovered what Thanksgiving is and how it started then we moved onto thinking about what we are thankful for. We discovered that Thanksgiving is very similar to our Harvest Festival as it was a celebration of a good harvest when the Pilgrims first migrated to America. In the morning all members of the Year 6 team created a Thanksgiving leaf design and then we took part in a pumpkin hunt. During the remainder of the day we watched the Macy's parade, baked cookies and took part in a Thanksgiving circle time.

Our topic up until Christmas is called 'The Flintstones' and we will be studying from the Stone Age through to the Bronze Age. We are going to be visiting Castleford Museum to see a 'real life' Bronze Age chariot and maybe even do some chariot racing ourselves...
