Sandal Magna Community Academy

Year 4

Welcome to the Year 4 blog page!

Our aim is to make your child’s learning exciting and fun, and have lots of fun along the way.

We aim to foster a nurturing and supportive environment so your children will come into school with a smile on their faces, and not be afraid to learn from any mistakes.  They will feel comfortable to become independent learners, and share ideas within our class.

We have designed our curriculum to ensure that children get a broad and balanced diet of daily English and Maths, and weekly lessons in a variety of topics, including computing, science and humanities.  We aim to present our lessons creatively through a mixture of written work, drama and multimedia.

We know that it is important for children to stay active and keep their mind and bodies healthy, therefore we take part in weekly PE sessions.  Our PE day is Wednesday, so please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit every Wednesday.  We will be outside as much as we can, so you need to ensure that your child has suitable footwear and clothing.  In Year 4, we go swimming on a Tuesday afternoon, and your child will need a towel, swimming costume/trunks and a suitable bag to carry these items in.

Every week, we will be setting homework and spellings, we aim to do this using Purple Mash, so it is important that your child knows their username and password.  If you have any issues accessing the internet contact school.

Reading books will be changed weekly and it is our expectation that your child reads at home with a family member and that there is a comment in their reading record.  This will be checked weekly by the year 4 team.

In Year 4, we have to complete the Year 4 Times Table Test, which was initially started last year.  It will test the children’s knowledge on all the times tables right up to 12X12, therefore it is imperative that children are confident in recalling their times tables.  We will be practicing these a lot in school, but it will be highly beneficial to continue this practice at home. If you would like more information on the times table test, or any ideas to support your child’s learning at home, please feel free to speak to either teacher.

Thank you for visiting our page and keep up to date with all the exciting learning on our class twitter page.  If you do have any further questions, then please speak to one of the team after school.
